There’s a lot employers can do to support clinician mental health. Why is progress so slow?

As Mental Health Awareness Month comes to an end, it is evident that the burnout problem is far from over. Clinicians are rapidly abandoning their positions in search of new opportunities. A great majority of employees are experiencing anxiety and sadness, and a significant number are dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder and self-harm thoughts.

Here’s an interesting discussion about clinician mental health, wherein Beth Kutscher moderated a panel on this topic.

They talked about how to reduce the culture of silence around seeking care, what clinicians can do to take care of their own mental wellbeing (short of leaving the profession entirely) and what companies have been doing to address the systemic issues underlying the problem.
